Halloween Punkin'

This is definitely the year of pumpkins around our house! The whole birthday pumpkin theme started because I have called Drew Punkin' since he was a couple days old. Then when my mom came down to visit a couple weeks later, she immediately started calling him Pumpkin. I don't know if he was born in a different season if we still would have given him this nickname, I think we would have though. So of course, he had to be a pumpkin for Halloween this year too. Last year was his first official Halloween, but with my due date being November 12th, I just KNEW that he was going to be born in November. I knew so much that I already had a bracelet made with his birthstones on there, the Topaz. I was quite surprised when he made his appearance on October 26th, so needless to say I did not have a costume for him. The best we could do on the day we got home from the hospital was a pumpkin bib at Babies R' Us while picking him up premie clothes! Yes, the bracelet was changed to have the tourmaline on there soon after his arrival :)

Ticket to Ride!

Most of you probably have no idea what it was like growing up as a Red Sox fan. We would cheer on our team and each and every year be disappointed at how much they tanked in the second half of the season. As a kid, Roger Clemens-The Rocket (aka, the traitor!!!!) was the reason I got into baseball, that and the fact that my Grandpa always had them on the TV or radio. I used to go to games as a kid not fully understanding all the history of our team, or how much we would hate Bill Buckner and Bucky "F" Dent.

Well, NOW.....we are going to the world series TWO times in the last 4 years!!!!!!!! Back in 2004 Will and I were on a plane coming back from Vegas during game 4 of the World Series (what kind of fans are we right?). I mean, who would have thought we should consider the world series schedule when scheduling this trip, our team doesn't make it to the world series, so who cares right? We had a miserable start to our trip with luggage getting lost, so we extended our trip by a day NEVER thinking the Sox would win and if so, never a sweep! Unbelievable. We made it home just in time to watch the 9th inning from our couch. Then this series against the Indians, down 3 games to 1...and what a come back the Sox made again! As if this week wasn't going to be crazy enough with all our family coming into town and Drew's 1st birthday, and now we have a World Series to watch. And win.

Like Mother, Like Son

This summer when I took this picture of Drew, it reminded me so much of the picture of me in my crib as a baby. It has just taken me this long to scan it and get it on the computer. (in my defense, our old scanner didn't work and we had to purchase a new one!!). Anyway, this week we are just getting ready for Drew's big day next weekend. Tonight I am putting together the goodie bags and working on his slideshow.
Today we were over my friend Krista's house for a playdate and Drew was standing on his own when I looked over at him. He was playing at the activity table but had a toy in his hands and he kept letting go to hold the toy. It was the longest he has stood on his own!!! He was also taking some steps while pushing the walker, wow! We are still progressing to all solid foods. Tonight he did great with meat sticks (yuck, I know...but he loves them!) cheese, sweet potatoes and yogurt for dinner. I also just learned that Drew should be off the bottle by 1 year (HELLO clueless mommy!!!!!). We might be a little late on that. I just don't see Drew drinking all his milk from a cup yet. He does well with a sippy cup and I recently got him cups with straws that he doesn't have to lean back to drink out of and he loves those! But I also don't want to give up our night time ba ba snuggle time yet! Ah, bittersweet that this year of firsts is over.

Punkin' Patch

We made it to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch today! We were going to go yesterday. I was all showered and dressed, Drew's outfit was ready to go...he was waking from his nap....and...it started raining....and raining...and raining. It rained here for a couple hours. So we headed to the mall to shoe shop (for Drew not mommy) instead. But today we got to sit in the pumpkins and see the bigger kids in the bounce houses. I got my hay bale and corn stalks for out front. Drew got to enjoy riding in his new wagon (his birthday present from Auntie Lea) We had a good time :) If not before, we will definitely be heading there again at the end of the month in our halloween costumes with our playgroup friends. We will also be going on Drew's real birthday with our family when they get in town. Drew could not keep his hands of the corn stalks on the way home, poor daddy had to vacuum the car out afterwards!

2 minutes...

That is about how long I left Drew alone in the bathroom when I went and found this mess! I usually close the toilet door so this doesn't happen. I had a good feeling what he was up to but I had to finish folding a few towels, so I let him have his fun! Today we are just cleaning house and looking forward to the weekend! We are headed to the Flower Mound pumpkin patch to take some pictures and pick up some hay and corn stalks for out front. The bounce house that Grandma & Grandpa got for Drew's birthday arrived this week, so we are going to set it up to make sure everything is A OK with it. We also need to get some things hung in the playroom, and then I will send out some pictures, we think it is coming along nicely. We had the Salvation Army come pick up our old coffee tables/end tables, so we are table less until next week when the new ones get delivered. Lots going on this month in the Barresi house! Will life calm down after October for us? Not likely since it will be holiday shopping/planning time.. whew!
